Things To Do Before Taking Off For A Vacation In The RV After A Winter With It In Storage

Posted on

If you have had your RV in storage all winter and you are now ready to take it out on the road for a big vacation, there are some things that you are going to want to do first. This is to make sure that your vacation is as safe and hassle-free as possible.

Check For Signs Of Mice

Some of the easiest signs to look for when it comes to mice is feces. If you spot any, you will want to not only give the interior of the RV a good scrub down, but you will want to have a mechanic check under the hood. Mice could have built a nest in there and in doing so, started chewing on some very important hoses and wires. You will want to know about such damages and have the RV repair completed before you take off on vacation.

Change Out All Fluids

If your RV sat in storage all winter without being occasionally turned on and driven a little, you will want to have all fluids flushed and changed. After all, this is something that should be done once in a while and now is a good of a time as any. Make sure that you are including all fluids in this change, including the transmission and engine oils. Forgetting to refill them before turning on the RV can be disastrous and cause the part without the fluid to lock up and need to be replaced.

Check And Rotate The Tires

Some people remove the tires while their RV is in storage, while others leave them on. Either way, you will want to check the condition of the tires and have them rotated from their original spot. There is more of a risk of additional wear on the tires if they remained on the RV all winter and where not moved, so be extra cautious to check for rot.

With those pointers in mind, you should find that you are going to have a much easier time getting your RV ready for your big road trip. Remember, these are things that you are going to want to do every single year that you pull your RV out of storage. So, even if you did some or all of this the previous year, it will need done again. You will be glad that you took the time to be proactive when you are out on the road with your RV and you are not having any problems that could have been prevented before you left.
