FAQs About RVing For Newbies

Posted on

For many, the idea of riding down the road in a RV is an adventurous undertaking that will be full of surprises. The reality is, that unless you are properly prepared, your dream trip could become a nightmare. If you are new to owning a RV, here is what you need to know to make the experience a pleasurable one.

What Should You Pack?

Packing a RV for the road is not the same as packing for a road trip in a car. Without thorough preparations, you could find yourself in the middle of nowhere without the supplies that you really need.

When packing, it is important to strike a balance between what is actually needed and how much space you have. For instance, a 24-piece cookware set most likely will not fit in your RV, but a slow cooker and frying pan will. When it comes to utensils and plates, stick to only those that are needed by your family in one setting.

The bathroom is arguably the smallest area in your RV. It is because of this, you need to take along only the essentials and look for ways to increase the available space in your bathroom. For instance, a mesh bag can in the shower can store some of your toiletries, such as shampoo, without taking up too much space.

What Kind of Planning Is Involved?

For some, the purpose of owning a RV is that they can jump in it at anytime and drive anywhere. Unfortunately, this is not realistic. Even if you only have a basic plan in place for your trip, it is worth taking the time to plan out your trip.

When planning, you can determine the routes you plan to take, including the stops, and how much you plan to spend. Spending should not only take into account food, but also an allowance for any unforeseen emergency situation.

You should also research the campgrounds you plan to utilize. By doing this, you can ensure that you choose campgrounds that have the resources available that you need. If not, you can make plans to either stay at another campground or find other ways to meet your needs.

Consult with your RV dealer, such as Orangewood RV Center, to find out what other planning steps you need to take to ensure that you are on the right track. By learning all you can before your first excursion, you can ensure that you are ready for whatever comes up.
